Ductile iron pipe fittings are pipe connection and control components made from ductile iron as the base material, through casting and subsequent processing. They are widely used in various fluid transportation pipeline systems such as water supply, drainage, gas, heating, and fire protection. Compared with ordinary gray cast iron, the graphite in ductile iron is distributed in a spherical shape, effectively eliminating the stress concentration caused by flake graphite. This gives the material both the good castability of cast iron and the high strength, toughness, and ductility of steel, making it particularly outstanding in terms of pressure resistance, seismic resistance, and durability.

The manufacture of ductile iron pipe fittings typically uses blast furnace iron as raw material. Through spheroidizing and inoculation treatments, the graphite crystallizes into spherical shapes, which are then formed into the required shapes, such as elbows, tees, crosses, reducers, flanges, and plugs, using centrifugal casting or sand casting. Its mature production process allows for the one-piece molding of complex geometric structures, reducing welds and splices, and lowering the risk of leakage. After cleaning, machining, and surface protection treatment, castings possess precise geometric dimensions and excellent surface quality, meeting stringent requirements for pipeline installation and use.

In terms of performance, ductile iron pipe fittings exhibit high tensile and yield strength, typically ranging from 400 to 900 MPa, with an elongation of 2% to 10%, effectively resisting deformation and cracking caused by internal pressure and external loads. Their excellent toughness allows them to maintain good structural integrity even under adverse conditions such as earthquakes, ground subsidence, or temperature variations. Regarding corrosion resistance, ductile iron forms a dense oxide film in natural water and soil environments. Combined with commonly used internal and external anti-corrosion coatings (such as cement mortar linings, epoxy resin coatings, or zinc-aluminum coatings), this significantly enhances resistance to electrochemical and chemical corrosion, extending service life to decades or even longer.

Ductile iron pipe fittings offer flexible and diverse connection methods, commonly including slip-in (T-type) joints, mechanical (K-type) joints, and flange connections. Slip-in joints achieve flexible sealing through the mating of a rubber sealing ring and a socket conical surface, simplifying installation and absorbing a certain amount of axial displacement and angular deflection. Mechanical joints, secured with bolts and flanges, offer higher rigidity and pressure resistance, suitable for areas with high internal pressure or frequent geological activity. Flange connections facilitate rapid assembly with valves, pumps, and other equipment. These connection methods provide a wide range of options and reliable assurance for pipeline network design and construction.

In application areas, ductile iron pipe fittings, due to their superior comprehensive performance, have become one of the preferred pipe components for municipal water supply, building water supply and drainage, gas transmission and distribution, industrial circulating water, and centralized heating systems. They can operate stably within a temperature range of -20℃ to 350℃, adapting to different media and operating conditions. Furthermore, the recyclability of ductile iron aligns with the trend of green building materials development, contributing to the sustainable development of infrastructure construction.

Overall, ductile iron pipe fittings, with their high strength, high toughness, good corrosion resistance, and ease of construction, form a crucial node in modern fluid transport networks. With the continuous advancement of materials processing and corrosion prevention technologies, their application scope and service reliability will be further expanded, providing solid support for the safe and efficient operation of urban lifelines and industrial arteries.
