Types of Gate Valve

The gate valves produced by our company mainly include the following types:

01

Buried Soft-sealed Gate Valve

Buried design eliminates vaults. It reduces space requirements. The valve installs directly underground. It handles soil pressure effectively. Maintenance remains minimal always.

02

Rising Stem Soft-sealed Gate Valve

Rising stem design provides visibility. Operators see valve position. This ensures correct operation. It prevents mistaken closures. Safety improves significantly.

03

Magnetic Encryption Soft-sealed Gate Valve

Magnetic encryption technology ensures safety. It uses unique magnetic codes. Each valve has individual identity. Only matched keys operate. This prevents tampering completely.

Advantages Of Gate Valve

Simple Structure and Easy Maintenance: Gate valves have a straightforward design, making them easier to manufacture and maintain. The internal structure is uncomplicated, typically composed of a gate, stem, body, and seat.

Low Flow Resistance: One of the most prominent advantages of gate valves is their low flow resistance. Since the internal passage is straight and unobstructed when the valve is fully open, the fluid can flow with minimal turbulence and pressure loss.

Lower Operating Torque: Compared to globe valves, gate valves require less torque to operate. This is because the movement of the gate is perpendicular to the direction of flow, which minimizes friction during opening and closing.

Lightweight and Durable Design: Constructed from advanced ductile iron, gate valves are typically 20-30% lighter than traditional models, improving installation and maintenance convenience.

Rubber-Coated Gate for Enhanced Seal: High-quality rubber is used to coat both the inner and outer surfaces of the gate, offering excellent memory elasticity and long-term sealing reliability.

Versatile Actuation Options

Gate valves can be operated manually, pneumatically, electrically, or with gear-driven actuators, providing flexibility for various industrial environments.

High Sealing Performance

With the use of flexible graphite packing and precision machining, modern gate valves offer reliable sealing performance, even in high-temperature environments.

Flat-Bottom Valve Seat Design

To prevent debris accumulation and leakage issues common in traditional designs, modern gate valves use a flat-bottom seat, ensuring unimpeded fluid flow.

Precision-Cast Valve Body

The precision casting process guarantees high dimensional accuracy, allowing the valve body to maintain effective sealing without additional machining.

Applications of Gate Valve

Water Supply Systems

Ideal for isolating flow in water distribution networks.

Oil and Gas Industry

Suitable for pipeline isolation and high-pressure applications.

Power Plants

Common in steam and condensate systems for isolation purposes.

Chemical Processing

Employed in systems where a tight shut-off is required to prevent leaks.

Installation Steps for Gate Valves

Step 1: Align the Valve
Make sure the valve and pipeline are aligned horizontally or vertically, depending on your system layout. The valve stem should be easily accessible for future operation and maintenance.

Step 2: Install the Valve
For Flanged Gate Valves

  • Insert the valve between the two pipe flanges.
  • Position gaskets on both sides of the valve.
  • Align the bolt holes carefully and insert the bolts accordingly.
  • Tighten bolts in a cross pattern to distribute pressure evenly.
  • Use a torque wrench to apply the manufacturer-recommended torque values.

For Threaded Gate Valves

  • Apply PTFE tape or sealant to the male threads.
  • Thread the valve onto the pipe by hand.
  • Use a wrench to tighten the bolts, ensuring not to overtighten.

For Welded Gate Valves

  • Verify accurate alignment to ensure proper installation.
  • Adhere strictly to all welding safety protocols.
  • Allow time for cooling and conduct a pressure test afterward.

Step 3: Pressure Test and Inspection

  • Gradually fill the pipeline with fluid.
  • Inspect the valve body, stem, and joints thoroughly for any signs of leakage.
  • Open and close the valve fully to ensure smooth operation.
  • Conduct a hydrostatic or pneumatic test if specified by project standards.

Storage Precautions For Gate Valves

Temperature

10–30°C (50–86°F). Avoid extreme heat (can warp plastic components) or freezing (trapped moisture expands and cracks metal).

Humidity

Below 60%. Use dehumidifiers in damp warehouses.

Location

Store on pallets or racks—never directly on concrete (which absorbs moisture). Keep valves away from direct sunlight, chemicals, or heavy machinery that could bump or crush them.

FAQ

Q: Can a gate valve be used to regulate flow?

A: Gate valves are primarily designed for fully open or fully closed operation and are not suitable for frequent throttling. Using them for flow regulation can damage the gate and sealing surfaces.

Q: What is the difference between a gate valve and a ball valve?

A: Ball valves offer fast opening and closing and are suitable for frequent operation, whereas gate valves are better suited for large-diameter pipelines and applications requiring excellent sealing performance.

Q: Can a gate valve be installed in any orientation?

A: It is generally recommended to install the valve stem vertically. Although some designs allow horizontal installation, vertical orientation is preferred for easier operation and longer service life.

Q: What is the maintenance interval for a gate valve?

A: Under normal operating conditions, gate valves typically require maintenance every 6–12 months. Regular inspections of the sealing surfaces and packing for wear are recommended.

Q: What are common causes of gate valve leakage?

A: Leakage can result from worn sealing surfaces, obstruction by particles, incomplete stem closure, or damaged stem threads.

Q: What are the common structural types of gate valves?

A: The main types are wedge gate valves and parallel gate valves. Based on the stem design, they can be further classified as rising-stem or non-rising-stem valves.

As one of the most experienced gate valve manufacturers and suppliers in China, our company offer a wide range of products with superior quality. Please feel free to buy high quality gate valve for sale here from our factory. Good service and reasonable price are available.
